Updated: Apr 20

This policy proposes to:

  • UCLan SU supports student action toward a national conversion therapy ban.

  • UCLan Students’ Union activity extends the union’s advocacy beyond campus borders to create a safer and more inclusive environment for all students across the country.

  • UCLan Students’ Union should push for the National Union of Students (NUS) to work towards a ban.

  • Include campaigning for the NUS to condemn conversion practices for LGBTQ+ individuals at NUS annual conference, uniting the national student voice against the practice.

The policy passed with 80% of the vote. There were 20 votes cast with 16 votes for, 0 votes against and 4 abstentions.

This vote means that UCLan Students’ Union is now committed to working towards a National Conversion Therapy Ban until at least November 16th 2026. This is a major step towards improving the lives of trans students and the wider community nationally.
