Victory - UCLan Students' Union vote for a Progressive UCLan Preferred Name Policy

Updated: Apr 20

This policy proposes to:

  • Lobby UCLan for a clear and progressive preferred name policy that includes a clear framework on how to change a preferred name and what will be changed.

  • A Preferred Name Policy which includes preferred names on communications, diplomas, and the online student directory.

The policy passed with 70% of the vote. There were 20 votes cast with 14 votes for, 1 vote against and 5 abstentions.

This vote means that UCLan Students’ Union is now committed to working towards a Progressive Preferred Name policy until at least November 16th 2026. This is a major step towards improving the lives of trans students on and off campus.
