Trans Awareness Week 2023

Updated: Apr 20

This Trans Awareness Week, we believe it is more important than ever to push the UK government to ban conversion therapy once and for all. Conversion therapies aim to change the sexual orientation or gender identity of a person, this is not possible. You cannot change who someone really is, and you should not torture them in the process. NHS England, Stonewall, The British Psychological Society, The Royal College of Psychiatrists and many more organisations have warned the government of the danger’s conversion therapy brings and yet nothing is being done to stop it. We must act now.

We have been fighting by creating petitions, putting up stickers and contacting MPs but that’s not all. We are building a student network across the country made up of Students’ Unions, Student Societies and Trade Unions to rally the National Union of Students to condemn the practice because we know that when students stand together, we can be an incredible force for change. Whether it’s a conversation with a friend, a letter to your MP or taking to the streets, you can do your bit to push for a ban. If we stay silent, nothing happens, so, get out there and bring awareness to this cause.
